Katie Swaffer

Occupational Therapist

Katie is an enthusiastic emerging Occupational Therapist with a strong interest in neurorehabilitation and supporting clients to build independence. She recently completed her Occupational Therapy degree, gaining hands‑on experience across a range of clinical settings and discovering her passion for working with individuals recovering from neurological conditions.

Experience, Projects and Interests

Katie has gained experience across acute care and community settings, including working with clients with traumatic brain injuries, complex head injuries, and amputations during an acute care placement. She also completed a community paediatrics placement focused on functional participation, family‑centred practice, and developmental support. These experiences have provided her with a strong foundation in neurorehabilitation principles across both inpatient and community contexts.

Katie has contributed to several quality improvement and education projects, including developing a digital version of burns education handouts to enhance accessibility and consistency for clients. She also delivered an in‑service presentation to an allied health department on co‑regulation and its application in clinical practice.

Her clinical interests include cognitive rehabilitation, adaptive equipment and assistive technology, and functional retraining.

Approach

Katie is committed to evidence‑based practice, continuous learning, and collaborating closely with clients and their families to deliver meaningful, client‑centred therapy. She is excited to begin her career with a team that values compassionate care and innovative rehabilitation and is looking forward to growing her skills while contributing positively to the lives of the people she works with.
